FINEAPPLY AIR HYGIENE SERVICE INFORMATION & FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why Carryout an Air Hygiene Survey?
Under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Occupiers Liability Act 1984, every employer has a duty of care to provide a safe and healthy working environment. The Workplace (Health & Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 outline that workplaces should be adequately ventilated taking into account thermal effects and defining that uncontaminated clean air should be drawn from a source outside the workplace. Ventilation should also remove/dilute warm, humid air and provide movement which gives a sense of freshness without causing draught. Poor indoor air quality may result in reduced productivity and lost time due to illness. Further guidance on specific measurements of air quality is provided by CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers).
What will a Fineapply survey include?
|
· Visual inspection of the air supply plant to ensure that it is in a hygienic condition and that the equipment is operating correctly.
· Visual inspection of the available ductwork (as appropriate) to ensure that it is in a hygienic condition.
· Assessment of the occupied air space. |
 |
What tests and inspection will be carried out?
Throughout the building and air handling plant, specific measurements will be made using specialist equipment for the following environmental factors:
· Temperature
· Relative humidity (RH)
· CO2 (Carbon Dioxide)
· Airborne particulates (Respirable and Non-Respirable Dust)
· Airborne bacteria
· Airborne fungi
What will my Fineapply report look like?
Findings are presented in electronic format (PDF), which can be emailed and if requested, it can be produced in a hard-backed ring binder report. The report will consist of the following information:
1. Introduction
2. Summary of findings
3. Environmental conditions
4. Laboratory results
5. Recommendations
Benefits of Inspections
We see several key benefits which can be attributed to Fineapply carrying out this work.
ü Compliance to the legislation outlined above.
ü These inspections identify critical environmental issues within the workplace, which can increase productivity, reduce sickness and absenteeism (so called ‘Sick Building Syndrome’).
ü Improved system efficiency. We regularly find filters that are incorrectly fitted or positioned and sometimes blinded, which means increased energy use and poor air quality.
ü Independent monitoring of the incumbent maintenance contractor ensures that the work which you are paying for is carried out.
ü The air supply systems can be added to your current ZetaSafe system.
